Sugar-Fu

That was nice! And they mentioned the video blog as well. I think my favorite part of the video was when I forgot which Jimmy the cake was for and my coworker hollered his name to me off screen.

I should point out that I work here: http://www.pinkcakebox.com

This was a sample or “dummy” cake that I made to replace a shop favorite. I made the styrofoam base, then covered it in sugar paste. All flowers, decoration, etc are also sugar. Yes, we do this sort of thing in actual cake. All. The. Time.

Cake decorating is dangerous business.

(Edited to add pic of what I was doing right before I wiped out beneath a pile of dishes)

Hand painted, royal icing run-in cookies: My boss asked me about doing some illustrative items and tonight I had a little spare time at the end of my shift. It was fun, though I have doubts about it being a commercially viable product. But any time I get to draw….

New class: Sculpting a figure in gum paste!

I am in charge of social media bombing at work now. So of course, I mainly take pictures of what I am working on. That’s not selfish, is it?

All about kids cakes last week. I subbed for the owner so all of these are my own handiwork. The dragon head was my favorite.

This was this week’s showpiece. So no, this wasn’t for an order, just to replace some of the older cakes in the window of the shop. I did all the sugar work and most of the design with some input from my boss. The figures on top were based on two sets I made in the fall. They are HUGE. Think Barbie Doll sized. I think they have a nice graffiti look to the style of the figures which is interesting in contrast to the etherial color of the flowers and all those crazy scales. More fun at the day job!
